Time to revisit the work done on July 22 at Salmon Creek Park. The ivy going up the trees is completely dead. As expected, there were a few new sprouts at the base, both in the grass and in the crotch of the tree, where I’m unable to remove the roots. These last remnants will be a war of attrition—will have to gradually starve the roots by removing new leaves repeatedly. Office pool on how long that will take?

At Greenwaters, I checked in on the first tree I had treated east of the path (September 4). I was worried there might be enough energy left in the stems for the ivy to set seed. Good news: The ivy was not able to set seed. The flower buds are wilting.

Next, I took stock of how many trees in that grove were covered in mature ivy that was entering the reproductive cycle: About 20. These are top priority. Don't want to let them set seed!

I treated five of them, plus two neighboring trees. Seven trees freed.

Dying flowers from the tree treated a month ago. Compare them to the healthy flowers above!

Always obtain permission from the landowner before beginning ivy removal activities!
